Research Poster

Today I started working on my research poster. Creating a poster on Photoshop is something that i have not attempted before so this is something that i am finding to be challenging. In order to help me with my poster i have looked at some written tutorial articles in order to help me and to also help develop my skills on Photoshop.

I mainly started by sorting out all of the information that i wanted to put onto my poster, and what layout i was aiming for. I began to create the poster and created the layout.

As a first attempt i think it went well with the assistance of the tutorials, and this is something i hope to develop as i can carry on with producing my work.

Filming at Nottingham Castle

Today myself and Jon went to the Castle to do some filming for the video that we will be including as part of the teachers pack that I will be writing. We filmed all over the castle grounds in order to give the editor (Vuyani) enough footage to work with. It is under my observation that a member of the group will be doing some more filming over the weekend as well.

The biggest improvement we could’ve made whilst filming would have been to have a solid and well thought out idea about what we wanted the final video to look like. This really limited us to filming basic shots of the sights, not leaving us with a lot of creativity. The weather was also not at its best but hopefully this can be attended to in post-production. It would’ve also been helpful to have some input from Vuyani on the filming and video as he will be the one editing it. To make the filming easier we could’ve produced some sort of story board that would have allowed us to to know exactly what we wanted to achieve from shooting and filming at the castle. This would have helped us to create a narrative and a good flowing video that would be a lot easier to edit in the long run as we would know exactly what we wanted it to look like. It would’ve also made it easier to actually shoot and to know what kind of shots we needed to achieve whilst at the castle. This is something that could be done in the future if we were to do a similar project or if we were to do any filming. Another improvement would have been to have more than just 2 of us shooting at this time. This would’ve allowed us to shoot with less difficulty and would also get the group more involved.

Guest Speaker

Today’s session began very similar to Tuesdays session, where we had the opportunity to give an update on our work, this time to Danny Kaye. In this session we mainly discussed what our visual ideas were and how these could be improved. He also helped giving us advice on how to take good photographs where lighting is limited without increasing the ISO and producing too much colour noise, which was likewise for any filming we had planned. He also gave us some advice on filters to help improve the miserable weather on our filming. This session was very helpful as we learned some new things and can hopefully use some of his advice in our work.

Later on in the day in our second session we had a guest speaker from BBC East Midlands to help us with our videos and our editing. The biggest downside to this session was that both group had not finished filming yet so didn’t have anything to actually show. This meant that we weren’t able to fully take advantage of the session that she was going to provide. However she was still able to give us plenty of advice and tips on creating a good video and allowed us to ask her questions about anything we needed help with. To improve on this session we could have had our footage all filmed and the editing started in order for us to have made the most of the opportunity we had been given. Again this is due to lack of communication in the group and people not regularly attending sessions. We need to ensure that we work to the deadlines that we have set in order for us to be efficient.

Final Group Meeting- The Final Touches

Today we met up as a group for the last time before we pitch our presentation and campaign tomorrow. The whole group attended with the exception of one person who didn’t appear to the meeting. We had many discussions about what we had recently done and what we needed to do to get to a place where everything was finished and ready for presenting.

As a group we went through the presentation together to show what Nathan and I had put together. The group offered some alterations and small changes to get it to a standard we were all happy with. We went through each slide individually and said the positives and offered any changes. I felt that as a group we worked well going through the presentation together as we all had similar opinions on what we wanted it to be. Benji was also going to add some research in that he found to do with the audience and our reasoning behind that target audience. Some feedback was also given on the video and a minor change was left to change- the spelling of Derry Shillitto. The only thing that is currently left to do on the presentation is to add screenshots from those who had been editing and designing to webpages and logos.

In my opinion today was a successful day in terms of attendance to the group meeting and our ability to work well with each other and accepting criticisms. In the future I would like to improve on reducing any distractions whilst working and try to focus on the task at hand in order to make the most of the session.

Group Meeting

Today our group decided to meet up again to discuss what we have done and what our progress is on the campaign so far. After revising all of this we decided to get on with some practical work, individually working on our contributions. Nathan and I managed to finish off the presentation with minor changes to be made over the next few days to get it to a standard we want and are agreed on with feedback from the rest of the group.

This group session wasn’t as productive or efficient as previous ones due to a lack of people showing up. This made it hard to keep up to date with what everyone in the group has done so far and what they have left to do and to properly get a plan together for the actual presenting.

To improve on this in the future we could perhaps arrange group meetings at a time where everyone is able to attend and to keep in better communication with certain members of the group as some have been absent from group meetings regularly.

Group Meeting- Presentation

Today as a group we all met up in Boots library to catch up and discuss each others progress so far on the campaign. We decided to write out a plan of what we were going to do next and what we needed to get done by our next meeting. This was a detailed discussion that ensured we knew where we were at and what we needed to do.

we then later worked on our individual contributions together in Waverley with me and Nathan working more on the presentation by adding more points and information to it. This will be further added to in the coming days with us hopefully having a full version of the presentation done by the weekend in order to give us time to change anything if needed.

Planning and Prep

Today me and Nathan met up at the university and decided to start planning the presentation that will be presented on the last day of term along with the rest of our group for the marketing campaign (Derry Shilitto).

When we arrived we decided to discuss what we felt needed to be included in our presentation to ensure that we included everything we felt we needed to. After deciding what we felt we needed to include we discussed roughly what information we wanted on each slide and started to make some bullet points as a rough frame.

We will be meeting again soon to work some  more on the presentation and to start putting it altogether ready for it to be rehearsed and presented in the coming weeks.
